Budget - Contributors Guide
In Chronova, team members play a critical role in the successful execution of a project. This section outlines how team members interact with the app, including logging time, selecting Chronova projects, and accessing project insights. Specific permissions are required for certain actions, ensuring that project data is both secure and accessible to the appropriate individuals.
Selecting a Chronova Project
When working on a Jira issue, team members can assign their time to a Chronova project by selecting it from the custom field available in the issue panel. However, only users who own the project or have explicit permissions to access the project will see it as an option.
Projects Ownership and Access: Only projects the user owns or has access to will be displayed in the project dropdown. If a user doesn't have access, the project will remain hidden.
Open to All Projects: Projects that are marked as "Open to All" will be available to all users in the dropdown, but insight access will still be restricted to those with permission.
Project Selection Interface
The project selection interface is simple to use, offering a dropdown menu with the available projects.
Once a project is selected, team members can proceed with logging their work and tracking their contributions.
Logging Time
Logging time in Chronova is handled through Jira’s native time tracking feature. After selecting a Chronova project from the custom field, users can log time against the project. Chronova will automatically sync this data to update the project’s financial and labor insights.
Automatic Sync: All worklogs are synced in real-time with Chronova, ensuring up-to-date financial tracking.
Time Logging Interface
Team members can log their time within the issue, and it will be reflected in the Chronova project data. Only users with appropriate permissions will see the effects of these logs in the Project Insights panel.
Visualizing Project Insights
The Project Insights panel provides an overview of the project’s budget, labor costs, expenses, and other important metrics. Only users with permission to view the project’s details will be able to access this panel.
Real-time Data: Project Insights are updated continuously, ensuring that users see the most current financial data.
Access Restrictions: If a user doesn't have the required permissions, they will receive an Access Denied message when attempting to view the project data.
Project Insight Panel
This panel appears within the Jira issue view and is only available to authorized users.
Permissions and Access Control
Chronova implements strict access controls to ensure that only authorized users can view or modify project data. Users must have the necessary permissions to:
Select a Chronova Project: Only visible to users who have ownership or permissions on that project.
View Project Insights: Even if a user can select a project, they cannot view its insights unless they are explicitly granted access.
Permission Handling
When a user without permission attempts to view or select a project, they will see relevant messages to guide them.
"No Project Assigned": This message appears when an issue is not linked to any Chronova project, prompting the user to contact the administrator to assign a project.
"Access Denied": When a user does not have the necessary permissions to view the project insights, they will see an Access Denied message. This message explains that they need to contact the project administrator to gain access.
Notifications
Chronova integrates key notifications within Jira to ensure that project managers and team members are aware of critical budget updates. When the project’s budget is exceeded, the system will display an alert in the Project Insight panel.
