Budget - General Settings
The General Settings page in Chronova gives project managers control over key project attributes, budget management, and Jira integration. Accessible to users with Owner or Manager permissions, this section allows for detailed project setup, ensuring alignment between project goals, budgets, and timelines.
Setting Up a Project
When configuring a project in Chronova, you’ll begin by entering basic details that outline the project’s structure and objectives:
Project Information
This section collects the foundational details of your project:
Description: A brief summary outlining the project’s purpose and scope.
Project Type:
Monetary-Based: Tracks expenses, labor costs, and overall project budget.
Time-Based: Focuses on tracking time spent on tasks and issues.
Start Date & End Date: Define the timeline of the project. The Start Date is mandatory, but the End Date is optional.
The Project Name is a permanent, unique identifier in Chronova. Once set, it cannot be changed. This is because issues in Jira are linked to specific Chronova projects by their name. Choose the project name carefully, as it will be referenced throughout the project’s lifecycle for issue association and financial tracking.
Financial Settings (Monetary-Based Projects Only)
For Monetary-Based Projects, financial settings are crucial to ensure accurate tracking of project costs:
Budget: The total financial allocation for the project.
Currency: The currency in which the budget is managed.
Default Cost Rate: This rate is applied when a project member does not have a contract. It helps calculate labor costs for uncontracted team members, ensuring no labor costs are missed.
Budget Tracking
One of Chronova’s core features is Budget Tracking, which helps managers monitor project expenses and labor costs against the set budget:
Enable Budget Tracking: Activating this option ensures the project’s budget is actively monitored.
Budget Threshold Percentage: Set a percentage that triggers notifications when the project approaches a critical budget point. By default, the threshold is set to 50%. You can adjust this as needed to suit the project’s financial sensitivity.
Automation for Approvals
Chronova offers automation features to streamline the approval process for both worklogs and expenses, reducing manual effort for project managers.
Automatic Time Approval: Automatically approves all worklogs submitted to the project, ensuring smoother management workflows.
Automatic Expense Approval: Automatically approves submitted expenses, facilitating a more efficient financial process.
These automation features are only available when the project has not exceeded the budget limit or surpassed the budget threshold.
Jira Project Associations
Chronova’s Jira Project Associations feature makes it easier to manage your tasks by automatically linking new Jira issues to the right Chronova project. Instead of having to select a project from a dropdown every time an issue is created, you can set things up so that all new issues from certain Jira projects are automatically assigned to a Chronova project. This saves time and prevents the headache of manually selecting the same project over and over.
New Jira issues from your selected projects will automatically connect to their assigned Chronova projects, making sure task tracking and budgets stay accurate.
Project Deletion
The Delete Project option allows managers to remove a project permanently. Before proceeding, it’s crucial to understand that this action cannot be undone:
All associated data, including expenses, worklogs, and reports, will be deleted.
Jira issues linked to the project will lose their association with Chronova.
Project performance reports and financial data will no longer be available.
